When you support this year's Light The Path campaign, you will be helping us to improve and increase programs across Halton Region. This year's campaign will help us to:

  • Maintain our Court Support program. We issue the vast majority of Domestic Violence certificates across Halton Region, which provide 10 hours of FREE legal representation to a woman who has experienced domestic violence and needs help to live safely. It costs us $150.00 per hour to keep the Court Support program going.

  • Improve workshops. We will be deepening learning to build transferable skills and core competencies so that any woman in a major life transition is equipped to redefine her next steps with a sense of power and direction.  It costs us $1000.00 per workshop to provide this level of support.

  • Strengthen Peer Support. This is the first program that was offered at The Centre and is integral to our services. When a woman calls on the phone or walks into the office, a Peer Support Volunteer is usually the first person she hears or sees.  It costs us $1850.00 per week to maintain this program.

Understanding the impact of invisible violence and how it looks in a woman's life is critical to uncovering her hidden experiences and realities. While Halton Region is touted as the safest regional municipality in Canada, Halton Region Police Service (HRPS) has shared that the highest number of calls received has consistently been from people experiencing intimate partner violence. Invisible violence often precedes physical violence, but it's more difficult for a woman to be believed in that phase of the abuse cycle. Some examples of invisible violence include:

  • Cyber violence - bullying, AI deep fakes, device tracking and monitoring.

  • Financial violence - withholding money to control behaviour, refusing access to earning income

  • Verbal violence - using words, tone and volume to intimidate and break down self image

  • Psychological violence - intentionally creating or planting evidence to convince a person of an alternate perception of reality

When you join with us, we can shed light on these experiences and help a woman who is looking for a way out to find her path from wounds to wonder and find her self, find her home, find her Centre.

Light the Path is the annual calendar year end campaign at The Women's Centre of Halton.  This fundraiser allows us to keep the doors open and ensure that someone is here to answer her call when she finally gains the bravery and opportunity to call for help. Here is what we were able to do thanks to the 111 donors who gave over $40,000.00 in 2025.

  • Expand our office to include dedicated space for confidential conversations such as: Peer Support, Court Support and Counselling.

  • Reduce our counselling waitlist.

  • Increase our in-person service hours.

  • Launch our Care Integration process to reduce the burden on clients and improve the experience of clients.

  • Increase our workshops.
